Function and technical context

This gasket acts as a sealing element between the exhaust cover and the corresponding block or manifold on Suzuki four-stroke outboard engines. It is part of the exhaust system, responsible for evacuating combustion gases from the engine to the outside of the boat. A gasket in poor condition compromises the sealing of the exhaust cover, which can cause leaks of hot gases, loss of back pressure in the exhaust circuit, accelerated deterioration of adjacent parts and, in severe cases, entry of humidity or salt water into sensitive areas of the engine. When to replace this part?

The most common symptoms of deterioration in an exhaust cover gasket are the presence of soot or gas marks around the cover joint, unusual noise coming from the exhaust, or an abnormal burning smell during engine operation. It is recommended that this gasket be inspected at each seasonal inspection and replaced whenever the exhaust cover is removed, as a compressed or deformed gasket does not guarantee a correct seal when reassembling.
