ANODO POPA DISCO SIN AGUJERO Ø 100 (AL)
Description
Function and technical context
The stern anode in an aluminum disc without a hole with a diameter of 100 mm acts as sacrificial cathodic protection in the stern area of the boat, absorbing galvanic corrosion that would otherwise attack the critical metal surfaces of the propulsion assembly: tail shaft, eyebolt, outboard motor support or the powertrain casing. Being made of aluminum alloy, it is the technically correct choice for boats that navigate in salty and brackish waters, where electrolytic activity is more intense. Its disc geometry without central perforation allows direct fixation on flat surfaces of the transom, providing uniform and continuous protective coverage on the base metal it protects. If this component is depleted or not renewed in time, the adjacent structural and mechanical elements are exposed to accelerated corrosion, which can cause pitting, loss of material and structural failures that are difficult and expensive to repair.
When to replace this part?
Sacrificial anodes should be visually inspected at the beginning of each nautical season and, as a general technical rule, replaced when they have lost between 30% and 50% of their mass: at that point, the remaining active surface no longer guarantees effective cathodic protection for the entire season. Symptoms of burnout include a visible reduction in anode volume, uneven surface with pronounced erosion, or the appearance of reddish corrosion or oxidation on adjacent metal parts of the transom or shaft. Don't wait for the anode to disappear completely; Replacing it preventively at each annual grounding is the most cost-effective practice to avoid electrolytic damage to high-cost components such as the propulsion shaft or propeller.
