Function and Technical Context

The stator is the static component of the outboard motor's charging and ignition system, responsible for generating alternating current through electromagnetic induction by interacting with the rotating magnetic flywheel. It is part of the ignition and electrical charging system, supplying the necessary power to both feed the ignition coil and charge the battery through the rectifier. Its integrity is essential to ensure stable electrical supply: a deteriorated stator causes intermittent ignition failures, loss of battery charge, irregularities in engine speed or complete motor shutdown. Reference 0584954 is a replacement part for OMC engines, compatible with a wide range of Johnson and Evinrude units of different power ratings.

When to Replace This Part?

The most common symptoms of a faulty stator include difficulty or inability to start, weak or absent ignition spark in one or several cylinders, progressive loss of battery charge during navigation and sudden engine cutouts at full power. As this component is continuously subjected to heat, vibration and moisture, it is recommended to inspect it during each seasonal service through resistance testing with a multimeter, verifying that the values are within the parameters indicated by the manufacturer. Preventively replacing the stator at the first signs of failure avoids becoming stranded at sea and protects the remaining electrical components of the ignition system against abnormal voltages.
