Function and technical context

The HR Titan 3 three-blade stainless steel propeller, with a diameter of 14.8 inches and pitch 20, is the final propulsion element of the transmission system in high-power Suzuki outboard engines. Its function is to convert engine torque into thrust on the water, directly determining the cruising speed, acceleration response and engine work regime. Stainless steel offers much higher rigidity and resistance to cavitation than aluminum propellers, maintaining true pitch under high loads and in demanding navigation conditions. A 20-inch pitch with right-hand rotation is designed for large displacement engines where an optimal combination of top speed and traction is required. If the propeller suffers damage, deformation or wear on the leading edges, the engine will work outside its optimal speed range, with a consequent increase in fuel consumption, vibration in the shaft and possible deterioration of the engine foot bearings.

When to replace this part?

The most common symptoms that indicate the need to change the propeller are: unusual vibrations in the stern even in calm waters, noticeable loss of maximum speed or traction under full load, excessive cavitation and engine speed that does not reach the rpm recommended by the manufacturer. Stainless propellers are very durable, but should be visually inspected each season, paying special attention to cracks, blade bending, or erosion on the leading and trailing edges. Preventively replacing a damaged propeller avoids secondary breakdowns in the shaft, hub and motor foot gears, repairs that may be unaffordable on the high seas.
