ANODO COLLAR GORI 2P SAILDRIVE Ø13" (ZN)
Description
Function and technical context
This collar anode for GORI saildrive with two blades with a diameter of 13 inches acts as a galvanic sacrificial element, protecting it against electrolytic corrosion that occurs when in contact with salt or brackish water. Made of zinc (ZN), it is installed hugging the saildrive shaft in the immersion zone, where the difference in electrical potential between different metals—stainless steel, aluminum, bronze—would generate accelerated corrosion if this sacrificial element did not exist. Without a good anode, the metal components of the saildrive are exposed to pitting, erosion and structural damage that can compromise the tightness of the assembly and lead to costly repairs to the shaft, propeller or saildrive housing.
When to replace this part?
Zinc anodes should be visually inspected at least at the beginning and end of each nautical season: when the anode has lost approximately 50% of its mass or has a completely blackened and disintegrated surface, it should be replaced immediately. A depleted collar anode no longer protects the saildrive and its wear can be accelerated if the boat remains on a jetty with scattered electrical currents. The professional recommendation is to replace it preventively once a year, preferably during the winter season, to guarantee complete cathodic protection throughout the following season.
