COLLARIN EJE Ø60mm. STD (ZN)
Description
Function and technical context
The Ø60 mm shaft collar is a retaining and guiding element that works directly on the boat's drive shaft, acting as a support and sealing point in the exit area of the hull or in the propeller housing. Its main mission is to maintain the alignment of the drive shaft and prevent unwanted axial displacements that compromise the integrity of the transmission assembly. Made of zinc (ZN), it also incorporates a passive cathodic protection function on the metal components of the propulsion system, delaying galvanic corrosion in marine environments. If this collar deteriorates, the shaft can suffer from looseness, abnormal vibrations and accelerated wear on the adjacent bearings and seals, which results in costly interventions in the dock.
When to replace this part?
The most common symptoms of a worn shaft collar are: unusual vibrations transmitted to the hull during navigation, metallic noises or knocking at the height of the propeller shaft, and excessive play noticeable when manually moving the shaft with the boat in the dock. As it is a component with a zinc anti-corrosion function, it should be inspected at the beginning of each nautical season and replaced when a reduction of more than 50% in its mass or signs of structural deformation is observed. Preventive replacement at the beginning of the season avoids unplanned stops in navigation and protects higher cost elements such as the shaft, bearings or stuffing box.
