Description

Function and technical context

Sacrificial anodes are the galvanic shield of any boat: they corrode in a controlled manner to protect the submerged metal parts - tail shaft, propeller, horn and hull - against the electrolytic corrosion that salt or brackish water relentlessly causes. This hexagonal profile Radice anode is specifically designed to be mounted on 40 mm diameter propulsion shafts, fitting precisely thanks to its hexagonal geometry, which guarantees firm electrical contact and a stable fixation without slipping during navigation. Its mission is to concentrate all the rust on itself, preserving the integrity of the axle and adjacent transmission components, which are noticeably more expensive to repair or replace.

When to replace this part?

The clearest sign that the anode has completed its cycle is the loss of more than 50% of its mass: when the anode appears noticeably reduced, eroded irregularly or has whitish and friable areas, it no longer offers effective protection. It is recommended to check the shaft anode at each beaching or, at least, once per nautical season; In waters with high salinity or dispersed electrical current, the inspection must be semiannual. Replacing the anode preventively at the beginning of each season is the most economical practice to avoid corrosion of the tail shaft and subsequent repairs in the dock.
