COMPLETE RADICE ANODE SHAFT 35
Description
Function and technical context
The full radice anode for 35 mm shaft is a cathodic protection element that is mounted directly on the tail shaft of the boat, in the permanent immersion zone. Its function is to act as a sacrificial metal: being electrochemically more active than the steel or bronze of the shaft, it preferentially corrodes and protects the noble metal parts of the submerged transmission. Without effective anodic protection, galvanic corrosion can attack the shaft, seals, horn and propeller, compromising the structural integrity of the transmission and leading to costly shipyard repairs. This TEN00412 reference anode is supplied complete, including both halves and fixing hardware, ready to install without the need for additional parts.
When to replace this part?
Shaft anodes should be inspected at least once a season, ideally at each annual beaching. The clearest sign of replacement is when the anode has lost more than 50% of its mass: at that point its sacrificial capacity is exhausted and the axis is left unprotected against electrolytic corrosion. In port areas with high underwater electrical activity or waters with high conductivity, wear can be faster and it is advisable to check the condition mid-season. Replacing the anode preventively at each grounding is the most economical measure to avoid pitting in the shaft, looseness in the horn and unscheduled propeller replacements.
