Description

Function and technical context

The full radice anode for 30 mm shaft is a cathodic protection component that is installed directly on the tail shaft of the boat, in the permanent immersion zone. Its function is to act as a sacrificial metal, absorbing galvanic corrosion that would otherwise attack the noble metallic parts of the propulsion system: axle, horn, propeller and other submerged elements. Being made of zinc or aluminum alloy depending on the environment of use (salt, brackish or fresh water), the anode degrades in a controlled manner, protecting the adjacent metal structure. The reference TEN00411 corresponds to the complete assembly, that is, it includes the two halves of the anode and the fixing hardware necessary for mounting on 30 mm axles, which simplifies replacement and guarantees correct electrical contact with the axle.

When to replace this part?

The clearest sign that the shaft anode needs to be replaced is a reduction in mass of more than 50%, at which point it no longer offers sufficient protection; Visually, a very small body can be seen, with irregular edges and areas of exposed base metal. It is recommended to inspect and replace the shaft anodes at least once per nautical season, coinciding with the annual beaching or every 12 months of use in high salinity areas. Replacing the anode preventively at the beginning of each season is the most economical measure to avoid corrosion of the tail shaft and the costly horn or propeller replacement work that a corroded shaft can cause.
