Description

Function and technical context

The TEN00415Q square conical anode is a cathodic protection element designed to defend the submerged metal surfaces of the vessel against galvanic corrosion, one of the most destructive degradation processes in marine environments. Made of high-purity zinc, it acts as a sacrificial metal by preferentially oxidizing, preserving critical components such as tail shafts, propellers, metal keels and other structural or propulsion elements exposed to water. Its conical geometry with a square base facilitates adjustment and fixation at specific points of the helmet or propulsion system where anti-corrosion protection is essential. The reference TEN00415Q identifies a standardized format that allows direct installation without additional modifications.

When to replace this part?

Zinc anodes must be inspected at least at the beginning and end of each nautical season, and replacement is necessary when they have lost approximately 50% of their mass, present a completely blackened surface or show irregular erosion indicating that they no longer offer effective protection. A clear symptom of a depleted anode is the appearance of pits or corrosion spots on the shaft, propeller or hull in areas adjacent to the attachment point. Replacing the anode preventively at the beginning of the season is the most recommended practice by professionals in the sector, since the cost of a new anode is minimal compared to repairing a tail shaft or propeller damaged by galvanic corrosion.
