Description

Function and technical context

The sacrificial anodes in double disc format act as an electrochemical shield for the submerged metal parts of the boat, attracting galvanic corrosion to themselves and protecting propellers, shafts, keels and aluminum or steel hulls. This 90mm anode with dual disc configuration is designed to be mounted in specific areas of the hull or propulsion systems where the surface exposed to salt or brackish water requires extensive and durable cathodic protection coverage. Its function within the antifouling and anticorrosion system of the boat is critical: if the anode is completely consumed without being replaced, electrolytic corrosion directly attacks the structural and transmission parts, generating irreversible damage that can compromise the integrity of the propulsion assembly and the hull.

When to replace this part?

The clearest indicator that a disc anode needs replacement is the visible reduction in its mass: when the anode has lost 50% to 60% of its volume, it should be replaced without delay, regardless of the time elapsed. The recommended inspection is at least once per nautical season, coinciding with the annual stranding, although in areas with high salinity water or with electrical currents dispersed in the port it is advisable to inspect it every six months. Replacing the anode preventively before it is completely depleted is the most economical measure to avoid major repairs to shafts, propellers or aluminum surfaces, the cost of which far exceeds that of any sacrificial anode.
