Function and technical context

This 60mm Radice shaft coating anode is part of the boat's propulsion line cathodic protection system. Its function is to act as a sacrificial metal around the tail shaft, absorbing galvanic corrosion that would otherwise attack the shaft, propeller and other submerged metal components. Manufactured to specifically fit 60mm axles, it ensures a precise fit and continuous electrical contact that maximizes its protective effectiveness. Without adequate cathodic protection, corrosion can structurally damage the drive shaft, cause vibrations, bearing play, and in severe cases, compromise the mechanical integrity of the entire drivetrain.

When to replace this part?

Shaft anodes should be inspected at least once a season and replaced when they have lost approximately 50% of their mass, have a very irregular surface, or show signs of accelerated erosion. A completely consumed anode leaves the shaft and propeller unprotected against electrolytic corrosion, which can result in pitting in the stainless steel or bronze of the propeller, significantly increasing the cost of repair. Preventive replacement at the beginning of each nautical season is the practice recommended by dock technicians to avoid irreversible damage to the axle line.
