Description

Function and technical context

This 60 mm replacement anode for Beneteau boats acts as cathodic protection of the hull and submerged metal elements, sacrificing itself electrochemically to prevent galvanic corrosion from affecting more noble metal structures such as the tail shaft, propeller, buttress or rudder hardware. It works in the passive anti-corrosion protection system, being an essential component in any boat that remains in the water, especially in ports with high electrical conductivity or salt waters. Its progressive degradation is inevitable and controlled by design, but if the anode is completely consumed without being replaced, galvanic corrosion will directly attack the metal components of the hull and transmission, generating costly and potentially dangerous structural damage. The reference CMAM260 guarantees the exact dimensions of 60 mm necessary for the specific accommodation of the Beneteau models for which it is designed.

When to replace this part?

The clearest sign that the anode needs to be replaced is when it has lost between 50% and 60% of its mass: at that point it no longer offers sufficient protection and should be replaced before it is completely used up. As a general rule, hull anodes are inspected at each annual seasonal beaching and replaced at least once a year, although in marinas with high electrical activity or frequent navigation in salt water it may be necessary to check them every six months. Changing the anode preventively at each annual maintenance is one of the most profitable investments in nautical: its cost is minimal compared to repairing a tail shaft, a propeller or a hull corroded by galvanism.
