Description

Function and technical context

This replacement anode for Beneteau 55 mm boats acts as cathodic protection of the hull and submerged metal appendages, consuming in a controlled manner to avoid galvanic corrosion in aluminum, stainless steel or bronze structures. It works within the vessel's passive anti-corrosion protection system, electrochemically sacrificing itself in place of the noble components of the hull, tailshaft, propellers or stern fittings. Its correct installation and periodic replacement is critical: a depleted anode leaves metallic elements exposed to corrosion accelerated by eddy currents and potential differences between dissimilar metals in water. The 55 mm diameter makes it compatible with the specific mounting positions designed by Beneteau for this type of protection located in areas of high electrolytic exposure.

When to replace this part?

The clearest sign that the anode needs to be replaced is when it has lost between 50% and 60% of its mass: at that point it no longer offers sufficient protection until the next grounding. Visually, a heavily eroded anode has an irregular surface, very reduced or with areas that expose the inner core. It is recommended that the anode be inspected and replaced at least once per nautical season—or more frequently in areas with high water conductivity or presence of eddy currents in the port—as waiting for it to be completely depleted can lead to irreparable damage to the hull or metal appendages that will be considerably more expensive to repair.
