This replacement anode for Beneteau 55 mm boats acts as cathodic protection of the hull and submerged metal appendages, consuming in a controlled manner to avoid galvanic corrosion in aluminum, stainless steel or bronze structures. It works within the vessel's passive anti-corrosion protection system, electrochemically sacrificing itself in place of the noble components of the hull, tailshaft, propellers or stern fittings. It is recommended that the anode be inspected and replaced at least once per nautical season—or more frequently in areas with high water conductivity or presence of eddy currents in the port—as waiting for it to be completely depleted can lead to irreparable damage to the hull or metal appendages that will be considerably more expensive to repair.
