Description

Function and technical context

Sacrificial anodes are the electrochemical shield that protects the hull, shafts, propellers and submerged metal fittings of vessels against galvanic corrosion, one of the most aggressive deterioration processes in marine environments. This replacement anode with reference CMAM245, 45 mm, is designed specifically for Beneteau boats, integrating into the cathodic protection points where the French manufacturer foresees the installation of these elements. As a less noble metal than stainless steel, bronze or aluminum structural parts, the anode corrodes in a controlled manner in place, preserving the integrity of the boat's vital components. Its correct installation guarantees that galvanic corrosion does not compromise the structure or functionality of the boat throughout the sailing season.

When to replace this part?

The most obvious sign that a sacrificial anode has completed its life cycle is a visible reduction in its mass: when it has lost between 50% and 75% of its initial volume, it must be replaced without delay, since below that threshold it no longer offers effective protection. In boats that remain in the water continuously, the inspection and replacement of the anodes should be carried out at least once a season, ideally coinciding with the annual beaching for hull inspection. Replacing the anode preventively before it is completely consumed is the most economical measure to avoid costly repairs to shafts, propellers or hardware damaged by galvanic corrosion.
