Function and technical context

The sacrificial anode for variprofile is a cathodic protection component specifically designed to be integrated into the variable profile (variprofile) of the transmission or propulsion unit, acting as a galvanic element that is consumed in place of the higher value structural metal parts. It works in the boat's anti-corrosion protection system, neutralizing the electrolytic corrosion produced by the potential difference between different metals submerged in salt, brackish or fresh water. Its correct installation is critical because, without a good anode, the metal components of the variprofile—such as the unit body, shafts and brackets—are exposed to accelerated corrosion that can compromise the structural integrity of the transmission. An exhausted or missing anode can lead to irreversible damage to very high-cost parts, making this small component one of the most important in nautical preventive maintenance.

When to replace this part?

The clearest symptom that the variprofile sacrificial anode needs replacement is the visible reduction in its mass: when it has lost between 50% and 70% of its initial volume, it must be replaced immediately, since its protection capacity is compromised. As a general rule, anodes on boats that sail regularly should be inspected at least once a season and replaced annually or sooner if wear requires; In areas with especially salty water or with high galvanic activity, a semiannual review is recommended. Replacing the TEN01074 anode preventively, before it is completely exhausted, is the simplest and most economical measure to avoid costly repairs to the propulsion unit during the navigation season.
