Function and technical context

The propeller anode for Variprop 95 is a cathodic protection element designed specifically for Variprop 95 series variable pitch propellers, whose zinc or aluminum alloy construction acts as a sacrificial metal against galvanic corrosion. This component works in the propulsion system, protecting it and the adjacent metal components of the hub and tailshaft against electrochemical attack caused by permanent immersion in salt or brackish water. Without adequate cathodic protection, galvanic corrosion can progressively and irreversibly deteriorate propeller blades and internal pitch adjustment mechanisms, compromising both the propulsive performance and structural integrity of the propeller. The reference TEN01073 is designed to fit precisely into the specific geometry of the Variprop 95, guaranteeing effective coverage of the areas most exposed to corrosion.

When to replace this part?

The anodes must be inspected at least at the beginning and end of each navigation season, and replaced when they show wear greater than 50% of their mass or when cracks, fragmentations or loss of adhesion to the support appear. In vessels that regularly operate in waters with high conductivity - marine, estuaries or industrial areas - the consumption of the anode can be noticeably faster, so a mid-season inspection is recommended. Replacing the anode preventively, before it is completely exhausted, is the most economical measure to avoid the deterioration of a variable pitch propeller whose repair or replacement involves a much higher cost.
