Description

Function and technical context

Shaft anodes are cathodic protection elements designed to be installed directly on the vessel's propulsion shaft, acting as a sacrificial metal against galvanic corrosion. This 60 mm diameter anode is specifically designed for Beneteau boat shafts, protecting them from the electrochemical attack that occurs when different metals come into contact through seawater or ports. Without effective cathodic protection, the stainless steel or bronze shaft is exposed to accelerated wear that can compromise power transmission between the motor and propeller, with the consequent risk of vibrations, excessive play and, in severe cases, structural failure of the shaft. The reference CMLAEC6000 guarantees a precise fit on the 60 mm diameter, ensuring optimal electrical contact and a homogeneous distribution of the protection along the axis.

When to replace this part?

The clearest indicator that a shaft anode needs to be replaced is its mass reduction: when the anode has lost approximately half its volume, it no longer offers sufficient protection and must be replaced immediately. Visually, an irregular, very worn or even fragmented shape can be seen, and in vessels with greater activity in areas with high water conductivity, consumption can be even faster. It is recommended to inspect and replace the shaft anodes at least once per nautical season, ideally at each annual beaching; Extending its life beyond that period exposes the axle and other metal parts of the powertrain to progressive corrosion that can lead to expensive repairs or complete axle replacement.
