Description

Function and technical context

Marlin Metal Primer in 2.5 liter green format is an adhesion primer specifically formulated for metal surfaces in nautical environments, designed to act as a base coat before applying antifouling paints, enamels or protective finishes on hulls, structures and metal components submerged or exposed to marine weather. Its function within the boat's passive protection system is to create an adhesion bridge between the metal - steel, aluminum, cast iron or various alloys - and the upper paint layers, guaranteeing that the anti-corrosion protection remains intact throughout the season. Without a suitable primer, finishing paints quickly lose adhesion in contact with saline humidity, leaving the metal exposed to galvanic corrosion and accelerated oxidation, which can compromise the structural integrity of the hull or treated elements. The formulation of this primer is designed to work in conditions of high humidity and salinity, typical of naval use, offering a homogeneous and resistant base that optimizes the performance of any paint system applied subsequently.

When to apply or renew this primer?

The clearest sign that the primer has lost its effectiveness is the appearance of blisters, chips or rust stains under the layer of finishing paint, symptoms that indicate that the adhesion bridge has broken and moisture has penetrated to the base metal. It is recommended to inspect and renew the primer at each seasonal docking, especially in areas of rough work, welds, edges and fixing points where mechanical movement and abrasion are greater. Applying this primer preventively before painting guarantees the durability of the complete protection system and avoids having to carry out emergency anti-corrosion treatments in the middle of the navigation season.
