POWER TRIM MOTOR 8M0089940

Function and technical context

The power trim motor is the hydraulic component responsible for controlling the steerable stern trim system on Mercury, Mariner and MerCruiser engines. This hydraulic actuator allows you to raise or lower the outboard motor to optimize the angle of attack of the propeller depending on navigation conditions, water depth and boat load. Its correct operation is essential to maintain propulsion efficiency, improve maneuverability and protect the propeller from impacts against submerged objects.

When to replace this part?

Symptoms of trim motor wear or failure include slow or no response to operating the trim control, abnormal noises during trim, loss of hydraulic pressure, or difficulty holding the stern in the desired position. Although there is no fixed replacement interval, it is recommended to check this component annually as part of seasonal maintenance and verify the condition of the associated hydraulic fluid. Preventively replacing this motor avoids being left without trim capacity in adverse conditions and prevents secondary damage to the stern hydraulic system.
