The 09289-12002 oil seal is a sealing element that prevents lubricant leakage through the rotating shafts of the outboard motor, acting as a barrier between the moving areas and the outside. It works within the lubrication system, sealing the passage of oil at critical points of the crankshaft or transmission shafts, where pressure and continued rotation subject the seal to progressive wear. Its integrity is essential: a deteriorated seal causes oil loss, system contamination and, in advanced cases, serious damage due to insufficient lubrication. Measuring 12 x 28 x 8 mm, it is designed specifically for small displacement Suzuki DT series engines.

When to replace this part?

The most common symptoms of an oil seal in poor condition are the appearance of stains or traces of oil in the shaft area, the smell of burning oil when starting the engine or a lubricant level that drops without apparent cause. It is recommended that the seal be inspected at each seasonal inspection and replaced if there is any sign of bleeding or loss, as a hardened or cracked seal can go from a slight drip to a severe leak in a short time. Replacing it preventively during scheduled maintenance is the most economical way to avoid a major breakdown while sailing.
