NGK DPR6EB-9 SPARK PLUG
Description
Function and technical context
The NGK DPR6EB-9 spark plug is the component responsible for generating the electrical spark that initiates the combustion of the air-fuel mixture inside each cylinder of the outboard or stationary petrol engine. It belongs to the ignition system and works under conditions of high temperature and pressure within the combustion chamber, being a continuous wear element subjected to extreme thermal cycles. The internal resistance integrated into this spark plug (indicated by the letter R in its name) suppresses electromagnetic interference, protecting on-board electronics and navigation equipment against electrical noise generated during ignition. A worn electrode, with carbon deposits or with an incorrect electrode opening causes misfires, loss of power, increased fuel consumption and difficulties in starting the engine.
When to replace this part?
The most common symptoms of a bad spark plug are engine firing or backfiring, irregular starts, especially when cold, abnormal vibrations at idle and a visible increase in petrol consumption. As a general rule, in intensive use marine engines it is recommended to check the spark plugs every 100 hours of operation and replace them preventively every season or every 200 hours, depending on the type of navigation and operating conditions. Changing the spark plugs during seasonal maintenance is a low-cost intervention that prevents breakdowns at sea and guarantees optimal engine performance on each outing.
