NGK DCPR6E SPARK PLUG 33-803507
Read the 2 reviews
Description
Function and technical context
The NGK DCPR6E spark plug acts at the core of the outboard engine's ignition system, generating the electrical spark that ignites the air-fuel mixture inside each cylinder and thus converts chemical energy into mechanical power. The "R" in its name indicates the presence of an internal anti-parasitic resistance that suppresses electromagnetic interference, protecting the electronic instruments on board - probes, GPS, VHF or chartplotters - from signal disturbances. This part works under extreme conditions of temperature and pressure in each combustion cycle, so its condition directly affects the overall performance of the engine. Manufactured by NGK with reference DCPR6E, it is approved under number 33-803507 for a wide range of outboard propellers between 2 and 30 hp from the main brands in the nautical sector.
When to replace this part?
The most common signs that a marine spark plug has reached the end of its useful life are difficult or repeated starting, rough or jerky idling, power loss at low rpm, and a visible increase in petrol consumption. The marine environment - with constant humidity, saline spray and sudden thermal cycles - accelerates the erosion of the central electrode and the degradation of the ceramic insulator, which is why in outboard motors for recreational or professional use it is recommended to check or replace the spark plugs every 100 hours of operation or at the beginning of each nautical season. Performing this change preventively during annual maintenance is one of the most economical and effective interventions to guarantee reliable starting and avoid assistance in the water due to a misfire that is so easy to prevent.
