NGK B8ES SPARK PLUG
Description
Function and technical context
The NGK B8ES spark plug is part of the outboard engine's ignition system, being responsible for generating the electrical spark that ignites the air-fuel mixture in the combustion chamber in each engine cycle. Its correct operation directly determines combustion efficiency, fuel consumption and engine response at full load. A worn electrode or one with carbon deposits causes misfires, notable loss of power, difficulty starting cold and increased fuel consumption. The reference B8ES corresponds to a thermal grade 8 spark plug, suitable for two-stroke engines that operate at specific working regimes and temperatures in nautical applications.
When to replace this part?
The most common symptoms that indicate that the spark plug needs to be changed are: difficult or irregular starting, jerks and speed losses at medium or high power, increased mixture consumption and the presence of black smoke or the smell of unburned fuel in the exhaust. For two-stroke outboard engines, it is recommended to check and replace the spark plugs every season or approximately every 100 hours of boating, whichever comes first. Changing the spark plug preventively at the beginning of each season is one of the lowest cost interventions that has the greatest impact on the reliability of the engine in the water.
