NGK ILFR6G-E SPARK PLUG
Description
Function and technical context
The NGK ILFR6G-E spark plug is an essential component of the ignition system in petrol engines for boats, responsible for generating the electrical spark that ignites the fuel-air mixture inside the combustion chamber. Manufactured with a highly durable iridium electrode, this reference offers more precise and stable ignition than conventional nickel spark plugs, which translates into more complete and efficient combustion. Poor ignition or a bad spark plug has a direct impact on the engine's response: difficult starts, high fuel consumption, unstable idle and significant loss of power are immediate consequences. In nautical applications, where humidity and salinity conditions are more aggressive than in automotive applications, having a spark plug of proven quality such as the NGK ILFR6G-E is especially critical to guarantee the reliability of the boat.
When to replace this part?
The most common symptoms of a worn or failed spark plug include difficulty starting the engine when cold, vibrations or jerks during navigation at different speeds, increased fuel consumption and the presence of black smoke from the exhaust. In marine engines for recreational and intensive use, it is recommended to inspect the spark plugs during each seasonal maintenance and replace them preventively following the engine manufacturer's instructions, generally every 100 hours of operation or once per season depending on use. Replacing the spark plugs preventively, before they show obvious failure, avoids unexpected breakdowns at sea and protects other components of the ignition system such as the coil or the CDI module.
