Function and Technical Context

Carburetor diaphragms are the flexible components that regulate fuel flow in the fuel supply system of two-stroke outboard engines, acting as a fuel pump valve driven by pressure pulses from the crankcase. In small-displacement Suzuki engines of the DT4, DT5, DT6, and DT8 series, these diaphragms operate under conditions of continuous exposure to the gasoline-oil mixture and the pressure variations characteristic of the two-stroke cycle. Deterioration of these diaphragms causes irregular fuel delivery, loss of power, difficulty starting, or even the inability to maintain idle, compromising engine performance in situations where reliability is critical. This kit includes the replacement diaphragms necessary for a complete carburetor overhaul and is also compatible with OMC, Johnson, and Evinrude equipment with equivalent part numbers.

When should this part be replaced?

The most common symptoms of worn-out carburetor diaphragms are: the engine starts but stalls shortly thereafter, an unstable or "choppy" idle, difficulty accelerating smoothly, and irregular fuel consumption. Rubber diaphragms harden, crack, or perforate over time due to the solvent action of gasoline and mixture oil, so it is recommended to inspect them during every seasonal service and replace them preventively every 2–3 years or at the first sign of poor fuel delivery. Replacing them early prevents you from losing propulsion while underway and ensures optimal fuel delivery throughout the season.
