The Mercury 8239121 sacrificial anode is a critical corrosion protection component in marine petrol engines. It is installed in the cooling circuit and systems exposed to salt water, where it acts as a preventive chemical barrier against galvanic corrosion. Its function is to oxidize in a controlled manner before the metal parts of the engine (cylinder head, block, cooling pipes), thus avoiding premature deterioration of structural components. Without this active anode, the salinity of seawater generates electrochemical reactions that corrode aluminum, iron and steel at a destructive speed, compromising the tightness of the motor and significantly shortening its operational useful life.

When to replace this part?
