Function and technical context

The winch grease in tube format is specifically formulated to lubricate the internal mechanisms of nautical winches: gears, cams, ratchets and turning axles that support high loads during the maneuvering of ropes, sheets and halyards. It acts as a protective barrier against corrosion caused by the marine environment - salt, humidity and seawater -, keeping moving components in optimal operating conditions. Insufficient lubrication or with an inadequate product causes accelerated wear of the gears, seizure of the mechanism and loss of performance in maneuvers, which can compromise safety on board in strong wind or emergency situations.

When to replace or reapply this grease?

The most common symptoms that indicate that the winch needs relubrication are: hard or irregular rotation, metallic noise during operation, pawls that do not engage correctly or mechanism that slips under load. It is recommended to clean and relubricate the winches at least once a season – or every 50-100 hours of sailing in demanding conditions – by completely disassembling the mechanism to ensure that the grease reaches all friction points. Applying winch grease preventatively during each seasonal maintenance is the most effective way to avoid costly breakdowns and blockages while sailing.
