ANODE KAMEWA NECKLACE
Description
Function and technical context
The Kamewa collar anode is a cathodic protection element designed specifically for Kamewa propulsion systems, acting as a galvanic sacrifice to protect surrounding metal parts – shafts, horns, propellers and housings – against electrolytic corrosion in marine environments. It works in the propulsion system, installing directly on the shaft or horn in the form of a collar, guaranteeing continuous and effective contact with the metal to be protected. Its function is essential because, by rusting before the structural components, it prevents premature deterioration of high-cost parts such as the propulsion shaft or propeller. Without a healthy anode, galvanic corrosion can silently progress to compromise the integrity of the entire propulsion system.
When to replace this part?
Sacrificial anodes should be inspected at least once a season and replaced when they have lost approximately 50% of their mass, have a very irregular surface, or are completely consumed. A clear symptom that the anode has stopped fulfilling its function is the appearance of pitting or reddish-brown discoloration on the shaft or on the adjacent metal surface, indicating active corrosion. Preventive replacement is recommended at each annual grounding: it is the most economical intervention to avoid serious damage to the shaft or propeller that requires expensive repair in dry dock.
