Description

Function and technical context

The Kamewa collar anode with reference TEN02455 is a cathodic protection element designed specifically for Kamewa propulsion systems, where it acts as an electrochemical sacrifice to protect the metal parts of the propulsion group against galvanic corrosion. This type of anode is installed in the form of a collar around structural components of the propulsion system – such as shafts or hoses – and works continuously while the boat is in the water, oxidizing in a controlled manner in place of the higher-value metal components. Without effective cathodic protection, the aluminum, bronze or stainless steel of the impeller and its housings are exposed to accelerated corrosion caused by eddy currents and potential differences between dissimilar metals in contact with salt or brackish water. Degradation of these components can lead to axial play in the shaft, abnormal vibrations in the driveline and, ultimately, serious structural damage to the Kamewa drive.

When to replace this part?

Collar anodes should be inspected at least at the beginning and end of each boating season, and replaced when they have lost approximately half of their mass or show irregular erosion that prevents uniform contact on the component they protect. The most common symptoms of a depleted or poorly installed anode are the appearance of pitting on the shaft or impeller housing, as well as visible progressive corrosion on the metal surfaces adjacent to the collar. As a professional rule, replacing the TEN02455 anode preventively at each annual tune-up is the most economical measure to avoid major repairs to the Kamewa propulsion system, especially in high-conductivity saltwater areas.
