Description

Function and technical context

The Kamewa collar anode is a cathodic protection element designed specifically for Kamewa propulsion systems, acting as a galvanic sacrifice to preserve the noble metal parts of the submerged propulsion assembly. Its function is to absorb the electrolytic corrosion that occurs when different metals coexist in an electrolytic medium such as salt or brackish water, protecting critical components such as the shaft, horn and propeller hub against galvanic attack. As it is a collar-type anode, it is installed surrounding the propulsion shaft in an area of high risk of corrosion, guaranteeing uniform protective coverage around the rotating element. Without adequate cathodic protection, bronze alloy, stainless steel or aluminum drive train components can suffer pitting, structural weakening and premature failure that compromises the safety of the vessel.

When to replace this part?

Anodes should be inspected at least once a season and replaced when they have lost approximately 50% of their mass, since below that threshold they stop offering effective cathodic protection. The symptoms of a depleted or non-existent anode are evident on the grounding revisit: visible pitting on the shaft, erosion on the horn or propeller hub bearings, and in advanced cases, corrosion that can compromise the integrity of the propeller shaft. It is recommended that the Kamewa anode collar TEN02452 be replaced preventatively at each annual grounding, regardless of its apparent visual condition, to avoid costly structural damage to drivetrain components.
