The intake gasket is a critical sealing component located in the engine intake manifold, responsible for creating a tight seal between the cylinder head and air passages. Its function is to ensure that the air-fuel mixture reaches the cylinders without leaks, maintaining the integrity of the intake circuit. A deterioration or leak in this gasket compromises the system pressure, causing loss of power, instability in acceleration and an uncontrolled increase in fuel consumption. In marine engines, where vibration and temperature changes are constant, this part withstands cycles of intense mechanical stress that accelerate its aging.
When to replace this part?
The most obvious symptoms of intake gasket failure include cold starting difficulties, rough idling, whistling or whistling coming from the intake manifold, and a notable loss of performance at low engine speeds. It is recommended to inspect the condition of this gasket during each seasonal inspection or after 500-600 hours of navigation, especially in engines subjected to high load conditions or prolonged operation at high revolutions.
