Description

Function and technical context

Perkins Blue 83 paint is the specific protection and color recognition finish for Perkins inboard engines of the 83 range, designed to be applied to blocks, cylinder heads, covers and metal components of the engine after inspection, restoration or replacement of parts. It acts as a barrier against oxidation and corrosion in a demanding work environment - with constant thermal cycles, humidity, salt and oil residues typical of the engine compartment of boats - while maintaining visual identification of the engine according to the manufacturer's specifications. A deteriorated finish not only affects the presentation of the assembly, but also leaves the base metal exposed to progressive corrosion, shortening the useful life of expensive components. Its reference PS114700 guarantees that the Perkins 83 blue tone is exactly the one corresponding to this engine, avoiding chromatic or formulation incompatibilities with other ranges.

When to apply or renew this paint?

The most obvious sign that the finish needs refinishing is the appearance of surface rust, chipping, or general loss of adhesion to the existing paint layer, especially in areas exposed to exhaust manifold heat or coolant splash. It is recommended to check the condition of the finish during each seasonal maintenance or after any major intervention on the engine (cylinder head disassembly, gasket replacement or block cleaning). Applying a coat of Perkins Blue 83 paint after each major inspection is common practice in naval mechanics workshops to return the engine to its correct working condition and protect the metal during the next sailing season.
