HYDROMARINE ANODE

Function and technical context

Sacrificial anodes are the main cathodic protection mechanism in boats, acting as a consumable element that attracts galvanic corrosion to protect the most valuable submerged metal parts: propeller, shaft, rudder, hull and engine legs. The Hidromarine anode (ref. TEN02501) is installed directly on surfaces exposed to salt, brackish or fresh water, establishing an electrochemical potential difference that concentrates the oxidation process on itself instead of on the structural components of the boat. Without effective cathodic protection, galvanic corrosion can irreversibly compromise aluminum or steel shafts, propellers and surfaces in a single boating season.

When to replace this part?

The general rule in nautical maintenance is to check the condition of the anodes at least once a season and replace them when they have lost approximately 50% of their mass, since below that level they stop offering effective protection. A completely consumed anode, whitish in color or with deep cracks, indicates that the metal components of the boat have been exposed to galvanic corrosion. Replacing the Hidromarine TEN02501 anode preventively at the beginning of each season is the most economical maintenance intervention to avoid costly damage to shafts, propellers and metal hulls.
