This polyester resin repair kit is designed to undertake small and medium-range structural repairs on hulls, decks and fiberglass elements of recreational boats. The polyester resin, once catalyzed with the hardener included in the kit, forms a rigid matrix that adheres to existing fiberglass laminates, restoring the mechanical integrity of the damaged area. The fiberglass fabric included in the kit acts as structural reinforcement, distributing the loads and preventing the crack or repaired area from giving way again to the dynamic efforts of navigation. Having this material on board or in the shipyard allows small breaks, surface osmoses, cracks in the hull or minor perforations to be quickly resolved before the entry of water compromises the safety of the boat.

When to use this repair kit?

The need to use a repair kit with polyester resin becomes evident when symptoms such as bubbles or blisters in the gelcoat (sign of incipient osmosis), visible cracks in the lamination, areas with a hollow sound when hit (delamination) or any perforation that compromises the watertightness of the hull. It is recommended to check the condition of the fiberglass at each annual beaching, taking the opportunity to clean and fill any affected area with resin before re-coating with gelcoat. Early intervention with this type of kit prevents minor damage from progressing to requiring large structural repairs, much more expensive in labor and materials.
