Description

Function and technical context

Sacrificial anodes are the key elements of any vessel's cathodic protection system: they corrode in a controlled manner in place of the noble metals of the hull, propeller, shafts and submerged fittings. This 3kg zinc anode is specifically designed to be welded directly onto the metal hull structure, offering a permanent bond and optimal electrical conductivity that ensures continued protection against galvanic corrosion. Its installation by welding eliminates the possibility of loss of electrical contact that can occur with bolted models, making it the preferred solution in areas of high hydrodynamic flow or steel structures. Without effective cathodic protection, submerged metals degrade rapidly, causing material losses in shafts, rudders, propellers and hulls with serious structural consequences.

When to replace this anode?

The clearest sign that the anode has exhausted its useful life is when it has lost more than 50% of its mass: at that point it no longer offers sufficient protection and the metals it protects begin to corrode. The inspection should be carried out at least once a season, preferably at the annual beaching, although in waters with high conductivity (industrial ports, estuaries) it may be necessary to inspect it every six months. Replacing the anode preventively is the most economical maintenance measure that exists: ignoring it can result in the replacement of shafts, propellers or hull repairs at a much higher cost.
