ANODE INGOT W/INSERT 3.5 Kg.
Description
Function and technical context
Sacrificial anodes in ingot format with insert are cathodic protection elements designed to be installed directly on the hull, keel or submerged metal structures of the vessel. Its mission is to attract galvanic corrosion generated by potential differences between different metals in contact with water, thus protecting propellers, shafts, rudders, exhaust outlets and other high-cost submerged metal components. The integrated metal insert facilitates secure mechanical fixation on the surface to be protected, guaranteeing continuous electrical contact that is essential for galvanic protection to be effective. Without adequate anodic protection, corrosion progresses silently and can compromise the structural integrity of the metallic elements of the hull and transmission within a few sailing seasons.
When to replace this part?
Sacrificial anodes must be inspected at least at the beginning and end of each navigation season, and replaced when they show wear greater than 50% of their volume, are fragmented or show an excessively hard and crystallized surface that indicates passivation of the material. An unmistakable sign that the anode has ceased to fulfill its function is the appearance of corrosion pits on the propeller, shaft or metal surfaces of the hull near the installation point. Preventive replacement at the beginning of the season, without waiting for total wear, is the practice recommended by nautical maintenance professionals to avoid irreparable damage to high-cost components.
