ANODE INGOT W/INSERT 2.4Kg.
Description
Function and technical context
Sacrificial anodes in ingot format with insert are cathodic protection elements designed to preserve the submerged metallic components of the vessel against galvanic corrosion. They act as a negative pole in the electrochemical cell that is formed when different metals are in contact through water, consuming in a controlled manner to protect more valuable parts such as propellers, axles, keels, heat exchangers or metal hulls. The integrated metal insert facilitates secure attachment to the hull or naval structure, ensuring optimal electrical contact and stable installation even in demanding sailing conditions. Without adequate cathodic protection, galvanic corrosion can silently degrade critical structural components, resulting in costly repairs or compromising the integrity of the vessel.
When to replace this part?
The clearest sign that a sacrificial anode must be replaced is when it has lost approximately 50% of its mass, presenting an irregular, porous or clearly reduced surface with respect to its mounting dimensions. Unlike other parts that fail suddenly, the anodes are consumed progressively, so the inspection must be carried out at least once per nautical season, coinciding with the annual beaching or cleaning of the hull. Replacing the anode preventively before it is completely used up is the most recommended practice by professionals in the sector, since a consumed anode leaves the noble elements of the boat unprotected and can lead to irreversible damage that multiplies the maintenance cost.
