ANODE INGOT W/INSERT 1.1Kg.
Description
Function and technical context
Sacrificial anodes in ingot format with insert are cathodic protection elements designed to be installed on the hull, keels, rudders or submerged metal surfaces of the vessel. Their mission is to concentrate galvanic corrosion on themselves, acting as a sacrificial metal that corrodes preferentially against the nobler alloys of the hull, propeller or propulsion accessories. This type of anode with insert incorporates an interior metal core that facilitates mechanical fixation to the surface to be protected, guaranteeing stable electrical contact throughout the useful life of the anode. Without effective cathodic protection, submerged metal components—buttresses, horns, tailshafts, propellers, and brass—are exposed to electrolysis and accelerated corrosion, which can compromise the structural integrity and performance of the vessel.
When to replace this part?
The clearest symptom that an ingot anode has exhausted its useful life is the visible reduction in its mass: when the anode has lost approximately half of its volume, it must be replaced without delay, as its protective capacity decreases dramatically. It is recommended to inspect the anodes at least once a season – ideally at each stranding or wintering – and replace them preventively before each navigation season if they show advanced wear or if the boat operates in waters with high electrical conductivity, such as port or marine areas with eddy currents. Replacing the anode preventively is the most economical measure to avoid irreversible damage to shafts, propellers and metal structures that entail much higher cost repairs.
