ANODE INGOT W/INSERT 0.5Kg.
Description
Function and technical context
Sacrificial anodes in ingot format with insert are cathodic protection elements designed to preserve the submerged metal surfaces of a vessel against galvanic corrosion. Working in the hull protection system and metal appendages, these anodes corrode in a controlled and preferential manner, preventing the electrochemical attack from affecting higher value structural parts such as propellers, shafts, horns, tails or aluminum hulls. The integrated metal insert facilitates a firm and secure fixation on the surface to be protected, guaranteeing continuous electrical contact which is essential for cathodic protection to function correctly. Without adequate anodic protection, the noble metals of the vessel are exposed to an accelerated corrosion process that can compromise the structural integrity and proper operation of the propulsion.
When to replace this part?
Sacrificial anodes must be inspected at least at the beginning and end of each nautical season; The general rule of naval maintenance professionals is to replace them when they have lost approximately 50% of their mass, since from that point on the protection capacity decreases significantly. The symptoms that indicate that the anode is exhausted are visible to the naked eye: very small surface area, porous and whitish texture or, in extreme cases, complete disappearance of the material. Replacing the anodes preventively when beaching the boat is the most economical and efficient practice to avoid corrosion damage to propellers, shafts and other submerged metal parts, the repair or replacement of which is considerably more expensive.
