Function and technical context
Sacrificial anodes are the main anti-corrosion shield for the hulls and propulsion systems of vessels that operate in both saltwater and fresh or brackish water. This Fairline boat anode acts through controlled galvanic corrosion: being a more electrochemically active metal than the aluminum, steel or bronze of the boat, it preferentially oxidizes, protecting the structural and propulsion metal surfaces. Without adequate cathodic protection, the hull, shaft, propeller, horn and metal reinforcements are exposed to electrolytic corrosion, a silent process that can cause serious structural damage and costly shipyard repairs. The reference TEN00272E uniquely identifies this anode within the catalog of parts for Fairline boats, guaranteeing dimensional and metallurgical compatibility with the fixing points provided by the manufacturer of the length.
When to replace this anode?
The clearest sign that a sacrificial anode needs to be changed is visible mass loss: when the anode has consumed approximately 50% of its volume, it has reached the limit of its protective capacity and should be replaced immediately, without waiting for it to disappear completely. As a general rule for pleasure boats in active use, anodes should be inspected at each seasonal docking and replaced at least once a year or sooner if wear requires, especially in port areas with high electrical activity or in marinas with stray currents. Replacing the anode preventively at each annual tune-up is the most economical measure to avoid corrosion damage to propulsion and hull components that can involve repairs worth thousands of euros at the worst possible time.
