Description

Function and technical context

Hull anodes are cathodic protection elements designed to be electrochemically sacrificed in place of the metal surfaces of the hull, shafts, propellers and other submerged components of the vessel. Working in the galvanic protection system, this 219x108 mm zinc anode acts as a negative electrode that absorbs corrosion generated by the potential difference between different metals in contact with water. Its correct installation on the hull is critical: if the anode runs out without being replaced, galvanic corrosion directly attacks the structural and propulsion surfaces of the boat, potentially causing serious and irreversible damage to the metal of the hull, pitting in shafts and accelerated deterioration of the propeller. The reference CMMZC406 corresponds to an anode measuring 219x108 mm, suitable for direct installation on the hull of the boat in areas of maximum exposure to the marine environment.

When to replace this part?

The clearest symptom that a hull anode needs replacement is the visible reduction in its mass: when the anode has lost approximately 50% of its initial volume, it must be replaced immediately, since its protection capacity is compromised. It is recommended to inspect the hull anodes at each beaching and, as a general rule, replace them at the beginning of each nautical season or at least once a year in normal navigation, and a more frequent replacement may be necessary in areas of high electrical conductivity or salt waters with high salinity. Replacing the anode preventively is one of the most economical and effective maintenance interventions to avoid costly repairs due to corrosion of the hull, shafts and propeller.
