ANODE W/SUPPORT 116x43mm
Description
Function and technical context
Supported sacrificial anodes are fundamental elements in the cathodic protection system of boats, acting as an electrochemical barrier that preserves submerged metal parts—propellers, shafts, keels and aluminum or steel structures—against galvanic corrosion. This 116x43mm zinc anode features an integrated support, making it easy to attach directly to the helmet or drivetrain without the need for additional hardware. Being made of zinc, it is especially suitable for use in marine and brackish waters, where electrolysis processes are more aggressive. The degradation of this component is completely controlled: it consumes itself so that the noble metal of the engine or transmission does not do so.
When to replace this part?
The clearest sign that the anode needs to be replaced is when its mass has been reduced by around 50% or more compared to its initial size, or when it has an irregular, whitish and very porous surface after ground inspection. Zinc anodes should be checked at a minimum at the beginning and end of each boating season, with annual preventive replacement in areas of high electrolyte activity. Do not wait for the anode to be completely consumed: if it disappears completely, galvanic corrosion will directly attack the structural parts of the engine or transmission, generating much more expensive repair failures.
