ANODE GORI
Description
Function and technical context
Sacrificial anodes are the key element of the cathodic protection system on vessels with propellers, shafts and rudders made of aluminum, bronze or stainless steel. This Gori anode with reference TEN01024 is designed specifically for Gori brand propellers, whose folding or variable pitch construction makes them high-value components that must be protected with special care against galvanic corrosion. Being a less noble metal than the metallic components of the propeller and shaft, the anode sacrifices itself by absorbing the electrochemical attack of salt or brackish water, preventing said corrosion from affecting the structural parts. Without correct cathodic protection, degradation of the Gori propeller can cause blade pitch misalignments, loss of propulsive performance and even propeller failure.
When to replace this part?
The clearest sign that the Gori TEN01024 anode needs to be replaced is when more than 50% of its mass has been consumed: at that point it no longer offers sufficient protection and galvanic attack begins to affect the propeller and drive components. As a general rule, propeller anodes should be inspected at least once per nautical season—ideally at each stranding—and replaced preventively even if they are not completely exhausted if consumption is high or if the boat remains in the water for a long time. Changing the anode preventively each season is a minimal investment compared to the cost of repairing or replacing a Gori propeller damaged by galvanic corrosion.
