Function and technical context

Quicksilver 25W40 oil for 4-stroke inboard engines is a high-performance lubricant specifically formulated for the lubrication systems of four-stroke marine engines, where it works in conditions of high temperature, saline humidity and variable load cycles typical of navigation. Its 25W40 multigradual viscosity guarantees an adequate lubricant film both in cold starts and under full load in warm water, protecting the crankshaft, connecting rods, camshaft and cylinder liners against premature wear. Insufficient lubrication or oil not suitable for marine use causes accelerated wear of moving parts, loss of compression, increased fuel consumption and, in extreme cases, engine seizure. When to replace this oil?

Symptoms that indicate that the inboard engine oil needs to be renewed include a dark or black color on the dipstick, presence of foam or milky appearance that indicates water contamination, burning smell, increased oil consumption between changes and increased mechanical noise in the engine block. Mercury Marine and MerCruiser recommend changing the oil and filter every 100 hours of use or at least once per season, whichever comes first, and it is especially important to do it before winter parking to avoid acidification of the aged lubricant.
