Description

Function and technical context

The impeller is the central component of the cooling system water pump on high horsepower Suzuki outboards. Its flexible rubber vanes propel seawater from the lower intake to the engine block cooling circuit, ensuring that the working temperature remains within safe operating ranges. When the impeller deteriorates, the vanes lose their sealing capacity and the flow pressure drops drastically, causing overheating, activation of the thermal rev limiter and, in extreme cases, irreversible damage to the cylinder head or bearings. Designed with Suzuki reference 17461-93J01 (update of 17461-93J00), this component is suitable for models DF200, DF225, DF250, DF300, DF325A and DF350A, covering large displacement four-stroke engines manufactured from 2004 to the present.

When to replace this part?

The most common symptoms of a worn impeller are the high temperature alarm, the reduction or absence of water jet in the cooling pilot and the abnormal increase in the temperature indicated on the console. In outboards that are used intensively or that have been operated in water with sand or sediment, the blades wear out more quickly. The standard recommendation for impellers on outboard engines is to replace them every 300 boating hours or every two seasons, whichever comes first; Renewing it preventively before the summer season prevents serious breakdowns during navigation and protects much higher cost pump components such as the casing or drive shaft.
