Function and technical context

Silent blocks are anti-vibration mounting elements made of rubber and metal that act as elastic shock absorbers between the engine or transmission and the boat's hull structure. This 16 mm silentblock works in the support and fixing system of the powertrain, absorbing the vibrations generated by the engine during its operation and acoustically isolating the cabin and hull. Its function is critical because a deteriorated silentblock transmits vibrations directly to the structure of the boat, causing excessive noise, fatigue of the anchors, misalignment of the transmission shaft and, in advanced cases, structural damage due to continuous mechanical resonance. When to replace this part?

The most common symptoms of a worn or poor silent block are: a notable increase in vibrations and noises transmitted to the hull, especially at idle or acceleration; excessive movement of the engine unit when accelerating or decelerating; and visible cracks, crushing or detachment of the rubber from the metal bushings when visually inspected. It is recommended to check the condition of the engine support silent blocks during each seasonal maintenance, since the marine environment—with humidity, fuels and oils—accelerates the aging of the rubber. Replacing them preventatively at any sign of deterioration prevents shaft misalignments that can lead to costly transmission line or stern tube bearing failures.
