Function and technical context

The Aifo TEN02010 cooling anode is a cathodic protection element integrated into the engine cooling circuit, designed to be electrochemically sacrificed instead of the most valuable metal components of the system. Its mission is to attract the galvanic corrosion that occurs when different metals coexist in a humid or saline environment, thus protecting water collectors, heat exchangers, casings and internal ducts against accelerated deterioration. Without adequate anodic protection, galvanic attack can compromise the tightness of the cooling circuit, cause coolant losses, engine overheating and, in advanced cases, cracks in the cylinder head or block. The reference TEN02010 is manufactured specifically for Aifo engines, guaranteeing dimensions and alloy adjusted to the circuit assembly tolerances.

When to replace this part?

Cooling anodes must be inspected at the beginning of each nautical season and replaced when wear exceeds 50% of their mass, at which time their protection capacity decreases drastically. Symptoms that may indicate a depleted or absent anode include visible pitting in the engine water collector, whitish or greenish deposits on the cooling circuit joints and, in advanced stages, small leaks in metal fittings in the system. Replacing the TEN02010 anode preventively at each annual maintenance is the most economical measure to avoid high-cost repairs on cooling circuit components that are difficult to access once damaged.
