LOMBARDINI SAILDRIVE ANODE
Description
Function and technical context
The Lombardini TEN01552 saildrive sacrificial anode is a cathodic protection element designed specifically for Lombardini saildrive propulsion systems. Its mission is to sacrifice itself electrochemically to protect the metal parts of the saildrive - casing, shaft, propeller and other alloy components - against galvanic corrosion caused by permanent immersion in salt water or brackish. Without this component in correct condition, corrosion directly attacks the structural parts of the saildrive, compromising the integrity of the transmission system and the watertightness of the hull. This type of anode works within the boat's transmission/propulsion system and is absolutely critical for any sailboat or boat equipped with a Lombardini engine in saildrive configuration.
When to replace this part?
The symptoms that the sacrificial anode needs replacement are visible to the naked eye: when the anode has lost more than 50% of its mass, has an irregular and severely eroded surface, or has completely disappeared, it must be replaced immediately. The general recommendation for saildrive anodes is to check and replace them at least once a season, or coinciding with each boat docking, regardless of the apparent condition. Replacing the TEN01552 anode preventively at each annual tune-up is the most economical measure to avoid irreversible damage to the saildrive housing or shaft, repairs that can be extremely expensive.
