Sacrificial anodes are the electrochemical shield of marine engines against galvanic corrosion, a phenomenon that in saline and brackish environments can destroy metal components in a matter of weeks. This anode is designed specifically for Caterpillar 3500 Series engines, a family of high displacement diesel engines widely used in work boats, large yachts and marine industrial applications. It acts as a sacrificial negative electrode within the engine's galvanic circuit, attracting electrolytic corrosion that would otherwise attack exhaust manifolds, pump casings, heat exchangers and other structural metal components of the powertrain. When to replace this part?
